Building
In 2011 the CRTD team moved into its new home. This state-of-art building was built adjacent to the BioInnovationCenter in Dresden-Johannstadt. The Federal Republic of Germany and the Free State of Saxony, together with an EFRE-funding, secured the construction costs of around 50 million EUR.
With around 7.000 m² main usable space, the CRTD building offers ample space for scientific work, education, communication and life. The north wing provides lab space on four levels to house groups with similar scientific aims in four home bases. Senior professors and junior groups work closely together. All home bases have large lab spaces made for communication and added support areas, e.g. dark rooms for microscopy, cell culture rooms, etc. The south wing accommodates essential facilities such as light and electron microscopy, next-generation sequencing, as well as a teaching lab.
The heart of the institute is the central communication center, which connects the north and the south wing. Besides spacious seminar rooms, there is a large auditorium for about 350 people, for national and international conferences and teaching. The central hall offers rich space for exhibitors, poster sessions, and social living within the scientific network of the CRTD.
