Photovoice
Your experience as a family caregiver counts!
In addition to studying, training, or starting a career, many young people have a very special responsibility: caring for loved ones. Whether it's caring for a parent with a chronic illness, supporting a sibling with special needs, or caring for a grandparent, they face a variety of challenges that can be quite unique.
To raise awareness of the concerns of family caregivers, the Kraft Copilot project cordially invites all young people who have caregiving responsibilities to participate in "Photovoice."
We start on 9.8.2023 from 9:00 - 13:00 with our first appointment. On 25.8.2023 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. we will continue with our follow-up appointment two.
Are you 18 years and older and caring for someone close to you? Find out more about Photovoice and how you can participate here:
The Photovoice method is about expressing your personal experiences and stories through photos. You take your smartphone or a camera and capture the moments that are meaningful to you as a family caregiver. These images can convey your feelings, challenges and successes when words alone are not enough. A key aspect of Photovoice is creating a supportive community where you can interact with others and share your personal stories. You'll meet people who have had similar experiences and understand what it means to care for a:n loved one.
The results of Photovoice can be made visible to society in a variety of ways. The images and stories you share through Photovoice have the potential to raise awareness of the reality of young people with care responsibilities and highlight the importance of their role in society. The plan is to present the resulting photos and stories as part of a public exhibition to provoke thought, stir emotions, and provide a platform for exchange and change.
Photovoice runs as follows: The group participating in Photovoice (about 5-8 people) will first get to know each other and we will define together on which topic the photos should be taken and do a short photo workshop (session 1). Afterward, you can take photos with your camera or smartphone that reflect your experiences as a family caregiver. Then, we will come back together in a relaxed and supportive environment to share our pictures and stories and talk about our experiences (appointment 2). In another meeting, we can once again summarize and review the summarized results from all the stories and consider together how exactly to present the results to a broader audience (appointment 3).
Photovoice gives you the opportunity to connect with like-minded people and build a network that supports and encourages you. Together, you can make the importance of your experiences and caregiving responsibilities visible in an exhibition and effect change in society. In addition, the "Kraft-Copilot" project team would like to thank all participants with a compensation in the form of a voucher worth 100 euros.

Photovoice is part of the BMBF-funded project "Kraft-Copilot", which is coordinated by the Center for Open Digital Innovation and Participation. In "Kraft-Copilot", a digital platform that offers individual and target group-specific support, learning, and networking opportunities for young adults with care responsibilities is currently being created. The results of Photovoice flow directly into the project-related research into the lifeworld of young informal caregivers.
