Requirements
To become a member at the Postdoc Center of the TU Dresden under the umbrella of the Graduate Academy, the following prerequisites need to be fulfilled:
- You have completed your doctorate no more than 12 years ago
- You hold an academic position with employment or stipend at one of the following institutions:
- Technische Universität Dresden
- University Clinics Carl Gustav Carus Dresden or another medical institution according to § 100 SächsHSFG – in this case, proof of membership rights at the Medical Faculty of TU Dresden is required
For young researchers of TU Dresden or the University Clinics Carl Gustav Carus Dresden or another medical institution, according to § 100 SächsHSFG, there are two types of possible memberships with the Graduate Academy:
- Full membership – can be granted for up to 6 years after completion of the doctorate and allows to benefit from all offers of the Graduate Academy
- Associated membership – can be granted between 6 and 12 years after completion of the doctorate and allows one to benefit from the offers of the Graduate Academy except for the application for funding programs offered by the Graduate Academy
Cost-based Network Membership | DRESDEN concept
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer free membership to Postdocs from other non-university research institutions. If you are interested in a membership for a fee, please contact us. This Network Membership allows you to use all services of the Graduate Academy and the Postdoc Center, except for applying for funding from the Graduate Academy.
Application Documents
To fill out the application, you need to log in to Promovendus and open the online application for membership on the start page. A ZIH user account is required to log in.
If you do not have a ZIH user account yet, apply for one here: ZIH login. Generally, you should name the supervisor responsible at TU Dresden as a contact person. If this is not possible, please contact .
During the online application, you will be asked to upload the following relevant documents:
- Copy of your doctoral certificate ( or a provisional confirmation of your successfully passed defense signed by the doctoral office/office of the dean)
- Only for employees at University Clinics Carl Gustav Carus Dresden or another medical institution according to § 100 SächHSFG: proof of membership rights at the Medical Faculty according to §49 SächsHSFG
At the end of the online application in Promovendus, an application document will be generated, which you will need to print and sign. Please send the signed document electronically (as a scan) to .
FAQs
Yes. The membership application can also be submitted during the postdoctoral research phase. At the time the application is submitted, applicants must have successfully completed a doctorate no more than 12 years ago (details are given in the section "Requirements").
For each child who lives in your own household and has not yet reached the age of 12, we will extend your possible period of membership by a lump rate of one year upon informal application. If you have taken more than one year of parental leave per child, the possible period of membership can be extended by the duration of the parental leave (maximum three years per child). Please submit a proof of the parental leave to us.
The time you spend caring for relatives can also be counted towards your possible membership period if you provide a proof. Please contact us if this applies to you.
However, please note that your actual period of membership will always also depend on the duration of your employment.
Yes. We also accept provisional confirmations of your successfully passed defense signed by the doctoral office/office of the dean of your Faculty. The final doctoral certificate can be handed in later.
Yes. You qualify for a membership as a postdoc if you hold an academic position at TU Dresden or at the University Clinics Carl Gustav Carus Dresden or another medical institution, respectively according to § 100 SächHSFG with membership rights at the Medical Faculty of TU Dresden. A respective proof should be handed in along with the membership application.
The membership as postdoc requires an academic position at the TU Dresden or at the University Clinics Carl Gustav Carus Dresden or another medical institution, respectively according to § 100 SächHSFG with membership rights at the Medical Faculty of TU Dresden. Postdocs from other non-university research institutions interested in a membership are welcome to contact the Graduate Academy via e-mail.
The rules and regulations apply as established in article 5 of the Statute of the Graduate Academy (in German only). As a member of the GA, you are entitled to:
- participate in offers of the qualification program or use our individual advisory services depending on availability,
- file applications for our funding programs (only for full memberships)
You commit to adhere to the Statutes for Ensuring Good Scientific Practice, Avoiding Scientific Misconduct, and Handling Violations at TU Dresden.
Moreover, you are obliged to give accurate and complete information and declare any changes of your personal data (e.g. address or other contact details such as email) or your academic position in good time.
The membership as a postdoc ends automatically if your academic position with employment or with a full-time research scholarship expires or after six years for a full membership and twelve years for an associated membership, or after your doctorate respectively.
The membership as a postdoc ends automatically with expiration of your academic employment/scholarship. Please use our Leaving sheet (alumni information) and send it back to us by mail (Postal address of the Graduate Academy) or email to the Graduate Academy - this allows us to stay in touch with you.
