Research center
United Nations" Research Center
The Research Center "United Nations" was founded in 2008 by Prof. Dr. Dr. Sabine von Schorlemer as an academic institution of the Faculty of Law of the TUD Dresden University of Technology. From February 2011 to September 2016, it was headed by Prof. Dr. Thil Rensmann, LL.M. Since January 2018, the research center has been headed by Prof. Dr. Domink Steiger.
Tasks and focal points
The tasks of the Research Unit include developing United Nations law as an independent field of research, intensifying the exchange between UN research and practice, strengthening the interdisciplinary networking of the various academic approaches to the UN system, and expanding knowledge about the world organization, its challenges and the need for reform. It is a particular concern of the research center to closely interlink research and teaching in the field of United Nations law. The research center focuses on peacekeeping, human rights protection, international economic cooperation and the reform of the United Nations.
With the Dresden Lectures on United Nations Law and Policy, a permanent series of events has been created in which experts from academia and practice comment on current developments in the United Nations system.
