The Department of Soil Zoology joins seven sections, each working on different animal groups or topics: Nematoda, Apterygota, Arachnida, Myriapoda, Oligochaeta, Data Modelling and Soil Food Webs.

- Structure and functioning of soil fauna communities and food webs
- Monitoring and modelling soil biodiversity distributions
- Contribution of soil fauna to ecosystem functioning
In the section Soil Food Webs the focus points are:
- Climate and land use drivers of soil food webs
- Soil fauna and dynamics of soil organic matter
- Soil macroecology and global zoogeochemistry
