AOM 2025: Kapteina on Democracy Research
Dr. Benedikt D. S. Kapteina, postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Business Management, especially Responsible Management, at the IHI Zittau of TU Dresden, will present an innovative paper titled "Redefining Corporate Responsibility: The Role of Companies in Supporting Democracy" at the renowned Academy of Management (AOM) Conference in Copenhagen at the end of July. He co-authored the paper with Iwan Alijew, a doctoral candidate at the University of St. Gallen.
The accepted paper explores how companies can strategically leverage their political activities to foster civic education—a topic of growing importance in light of current global challenges. At a time when democracies are increasingly under pressure and civic education initiatives often go unnoticed, the responsibility of companies in supporting democratic values is becoming more critical. The paper positions companies as proactive agents in defending and advancing democracy.
"The AOM Conference is the ideal platform to share our research with leading scholars from around the world and to discuss how companies can redefine their role in democracy," says Dr. Kapteina.
The invitation to present at AOM highlights the international standing of the Chair, the IHI Zittau, and TU Dresden. With a highly selective review process, acceptance is a clear indicator of the academic excellence and innovative strength of the submitted work. The conference also offers an outstanding opportunity to increase the global visibility of research and to engage in meaningful dialogue with leading international experts.
