Recap of the Event with Susann Ehrhardt: The Added Value of Internationally Open-Minded Companies
On January 15, 2025, we had the honor of welcoming Ms. Susann Ehrhardt from Silicon Saxony e.V., an expert in international talent management and personal development, to IHI Zittau. Her interactive talk, “The Added Value of Internationally Open-Minded Companies,” marked the launch of our new lecture series, “Lectures on Responsible Management,” which is also aimed at engaging the regional public. Ms. Ehrhardt shared valuable insights and suggestions that left a lasting impression on the audience.
Ms. Ehrhardt emphasized the growing need for companies in Germany to adopt an international perspective to address the increasing shortage of skilled workers caused by demographic changes. International openness, she explained, is about much more than attracting global talent—it also fosters innovation, diversity, and long-term competitiveness.
A key focus of the talk was the importance of corporate culture. Openness begins with supportive structures, transparent processes, and workplace language practices that make international employees feel welcome. Leadership plays a critical role in this process by modeling openness, embracing different perspectives, and committing to lifelong learning.
Ms. Ehrhardt illustrated these ideas with examples from the Silicon Saxony high-tech cluster, showcasing how relocation services, language training, and flexible work models can make companies more attractive to international talent. At the same time, she pointed out challenges such as bureaucratic hurdles and the insufficient integration of HR development into broader strategic planning.
On a more personal level, she highlighted how future managers can translate responsible, open-minded values into everyday practices. Her thought-provoking talk encouraged self-reflection and emphasized the courage needed to foster a welcoming corporate culture.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Ehrhardt for her inspiring talk. She convincingly demonstrated that international openness is far from being a mere "buzzword"—it is a crucial factor for the success of modern companies. Her practical insights and thoughtful suggestions will continue to guide and influence us moving forward.
