Geology and Paleoecology – Special Aspects of Collection Management

Summary: The module is one of five hands-on internship-type course, and covers petrography, in particular the nomenclature and identification of rocks; geochemical basics, regional geology of Central Europe, chemistry and mineralogy of rock weathering as the basis of soil formation as well as principles of palaeontology. Students gain insights in the procedures and methods of scientific documentation and sampling of geological or palaeontological objects as well as specific preparation methods and have experience with corresponding collections and specific scientific issues.
