Guest Lecture at Environmental Lecture Series "Diversity Instead of Monotony - Biodiversity in Crisis" with Prof. Dr. Remmer Sassen and Ulrike Seiler on 02.05.2023
Environmental Series Lecture (URV) "Diversity Instead of Monotony - Biodiversity in Crisis"
Everyone talks about the climate crisis. But other dramatic problems of our time are often forgotten, such as the biodiversity crisis. According to estimates by the World Biodiversity Council and the United Nations, around one million species are currently threatened with extinction worldwide. This is why there is talk of the sixth great mass extinction. The main cause - as is so often the case - is human impact on ecosystems.
But why is the protection of biodiversity so important? Humans are dependent on functioning ecosystems, as these form the basis for food, means of work, or even energy supply. So if we protect nature and biodiversity, we also protect our lives or our standard of living!
In this URV, we want to shed light on the negative as well as positive influences of humans on the environment. For this, we invite researchers and committed people from different projects to share their knowledge with you and to discuss.
The events are open to all people! Also for the guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Remmer Sassen and Ulrike Seiler on 02.05.2023 (Tue.). As part of the guest lecture, Prof. Dr. Remmer Sassen will give an exciting talk on "Challenges of the Biodiversity Crisis for Economy and Society" and will shed light on the pressing problem from both perspectives. In addition, Ulrike Seiler will show in her presentation "Biodiversity Management at the TU Dresden" what the TU Dresden has already done for this important topic.
We warmly invite you to be there! For more information, please visit the Tuuwi page.
