Guest Lecture on November 6: “Biodiversity in harmony with renewable energies” by Dr. Nora Adam (BayWa r.e. Solar Projects GmbH)
The Biodiversity Management and Sustainability course is pleased to announce that Dr. Nora Adam, R&D Ecological Engineer at BayWa r.e., will be delivering a guest lecture entitled "Biodiversity in harmony with renewable energies" on 6 November, starting at 12:30 pm. The lecture language is English.
Dr. Adam will explore the complex interrelationship between renewable energy and biodiversity, underscoring the importance of renewable energy projects in enhancing ecosystem resilience. In her lecture, Dr. Adam will address the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. She will highlight how renewable energy infrastructure can contribute to biodiversity enhancement when integrated with sustainable ecological practices. Dr. Adam will investigate practical measures such as the promotion of diverse, locally adapted plant species on renewable energy project sites, which have the potential to support key ecosystem services, including pollination, soil health, and water retention.
Furthermore, Dr. Adam will show case studies and initiatives from Baywa r.e that successfully integrated biodiversity into different renewable energy technologies across Europe. Further, she will give insights into how to integrate biodiversity throughout the different phases of renewable energy projects. These approaches contribute to the mitigation of climate change and support adaptation efforts, thereby aligning with the goals of global biodiversity frameworks, such as the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework from the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
It is expected that this lecture will provide an in-depth discussion of the nexus between renewable energy and biodiversity, outlining key strategies for advancing sustainable development.
