Topic
Managing New Economic Risks: Why Does Biodiversity Loss Threaten Economies and Businesses?
The economy highly depends on biodiversity: More than half of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), estimated at 44 trillion euro, can be linked to nature. However, GDP does not include a measurement for biodiversity and therefore undermines its importance. The Dasgupta Review calls for a sustainable economic growth and a change in how we measure success and wealth.
To understand the interlinkages between biodiversity loss and economic risk, this third seminar opens the dialogue about our demands on nature and its consequences on the local, national, and international levels.
The main language of the seminar series is German. Flash talks in English will be supplemented with German subtitles.
Background
Initiated by a UNU-FLORES and TU Dresden team, the Saxon Dialogue on Biodiversity aims to increase public awareness for biodiversity. The Dialogue features an online public seminar series and a social media campaign (#BiodiversityofSaxony), spotlighting biodiversity to mobilize action.
The Saxon Dialogue on Biodiversity project received the “eku idee” prize 2020 as part of the “eku Future Prize for Energy, Climate, Environment in Saxony” awarded by the Saxon State Ministry for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture (SMEKUL). The project also received support from PRISMA – Center for Sustainability Assessment and Policy (Prof. Jochen Schanze, TU Dresden, Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Board Member of PRISMA) and the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ (Prof. Josef Settele, Head of Department of Conservation Biology and Social-Ecological Systems).
Be part of the action by tagging your photos on Instagram with the campaign hashtag (#BiodiversityofSaxony) to get your entries featured during the event!
