UPI Lab
The Usability for Process Industries (UPI) Laboratory offers the possibility to study the daily usability of stationary and mobile devices within a controlled environment since 2012. For this, the UPI Laboratory is equipped with an evaluation room with modern audio and video technology which enables a synchronized recording of several stationary and mobile cameras and microphones. A test leader workplace is integrated for controlling the experiments. A control room or a mobile setup can be investigated as an application scenario.
Technical Equipment
- Professional software for qualitative and quantitative analyzation of multimedia data (Mangold Interact)
- A/V Capturing systems
- A/V synthesis
- Powerful audio technology (e.g. surrounding noises or instructions)
- Professional illumination
- Integration of real process and manufacturing plants as well the corresponding process control systems (Siemens PCS7)
- Arbitrarily placeable IP-cameras for observation of experiment participants at remote locations
- Ability for simultaneous recording of activities at the remote device center
Evaluation of Collaborative Work Processes
At the UPI Lab of the Chair of Process Control Systems it is possible to evaluate industrial scenarios. For instance, one can simultaneously observe an activity at the control and in the field. By a bidirectional A/V transmission, the execution of the evaluation is optimally observed and controlled.
Mobile and stationary user interfaces can be evaluated simultaneously. The activities of the participants can be recorded by cameras or an eye-tracker. The Laboratory is suitable for recording classical serviceability metrics and workload analyses (e.g. via a ECG recording or measurement of skin resistance).
