Bio
Mustafa Saraoğlu is a Senior Researcher at the Chair of Robotics, Institute of Automation, Technische Universität Dresden.
He received his doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) from TU Dresden in 2024 with the thesis “On Safety Assessment of Automated Driving Systems Using Simulation-based Testing and Formal Methods.”
His work focuses on control, decision-making, and safety assessment of autonomous and robotic systems, with applications in automated driving. He initiated and led the development of MOBATSim, an open-source framework for simulation-based testing and safety assessment of automated driving systems.
Research interests
- Control and motion planning for autonomous and robotic systems
- Safe decision-making and fault tolerance in networked systems
- Model-based development, scenario-based testing, and fault injection
- Formal methods for controller synthesis and safety verification
- Safety and reliability of learning-enabled robotic systems
Teaching
In the winter semester 2026/27, he teaches lectures and tutorials in [Control of Multibody Systems (Regelung von Mehrkörpersystemen)](https://tu-dresden.de/ing/elektrotechnik/ifa/ra/studium/lehrveranstaltungen-1/regelung-von-mehrkoerpersystemen).
His previous teaching includes Control and Automation (Automatisierungstechnik) and Mechatronic System Design (Mechatronische Systeme). He also developed a laboratory course in Control and Automation (AT-Praktikum) using quadcopter simulation and control tasks. He supervises student theses in control, simulation, motion planning, and safety assessment of autonomous systems.
