Topics for Student (Final) Papers

Thanks to the width of ZIHs research, we can offer a variety of interesting topics for final papers, research projects and seminars. Students can choose a field for their research focus.

Mathematical Biology

Generating knowledge from large amounts of data and answering important questions in biology and medicine increasingly requires mathematical models. In the lectures "Introduction to Mathematical Biology I and II" and an accompanying seminar, we offer a solid introduction to the modeling of biological systems using stochastic, discrete and continuum models, as well as their analysis, numerical simulation and interdisciplinary application.

Student Assistant Positions

The chair for computer architecture and the Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) are always looking for motivated students who want to apply their knowledge on real life tasks.

Research Focus

Learn more about the research focus of the ZIH, as for example scalable software tools for application optimization on HPC systems or data intense computing and data life cycle.

Courses

The Chair of Computer Architecture offers various courses, starting with basics in Computer Architecture II, but also specialized courses on High Performance Computing and Mathematical Biology, as, for example, "Effiziente parallele Algorithmen", "Performance Analysis of Computing Systems" or the Seminar "Mathematical Biology".

New Course "Digitization and Data Analytics: Architectures, Methods, and Consequences"

The lecture series "Digitization and Data Analytics: Architectures, Methods, and Consequences" provides an overview and special knowledge about current approaches for the analysis of large amounts of data (Big Data). This comprises specific computer architectures and data processing in the high-performance computing (HPC) environment as well as various data analytics approaches and their use in the HPC environment. Furthermore, data analytics frameworks will be introduced, basics of statistical analysis and machine learning methods will be presented, and selected applications will be discussed.

Chair of Computer Architecture

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang E. Nagel holds the Chair of Computer Architecture, is Head of the Institute of Computer Engineering and Director of the Center for Inforation Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) an the national competence center for Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig. The close coupling of teaching and of the research of these centers is beneficial for the Chair.
