Course content |
The course takes the students through a practical approach to the analysis of failures. On the basis of a pre-formulated failure hypothesis for several partly damaged samples various material investigations will be sensibly combined in order to obtain indicators of possible causes of failure. In addition to the evaluation of fracture surfaces a connection will be made between the metallographic microstructure pictures, hardness values and REM-EDX results. The students will learn how to put the individual results together, their interpretation and to weight them up. On the basis of this information a report will be completed. The subject Failure Analysis 2 is offered in the summer semester and is the continuation of the lecture series Failure Analysis 1 from the winter semester. |
