Wind tunnel test on protective covers for insulators on high-voltage power lines used to prevent short circuits caused by birds
Electrical overhead lines are very popular with migratory birds and birds of prey as seats. However, if the animals get too close to insulators, they can bridge them and die due to short circuits. Therefore, covers are required for the insulators and their surroundings, which keep the birds away from these areas. In order to ensure that the covers also fulfil their function after storms, they are subjected to an endurance test in the wind tunnel before approval. Last week, such attempts took place once again.
