The earth is not enough

In an exciting new project, the Chair of Flight Mechanics and Control and the European Space Agency (ESA) collaborate to increase the safety of future European space missions. As space missions become increasingly complex, they call for more and more autonomy. Hence, classical planning, guidance, and control methods are outdated. They are getting replaced rapidly by onboard, online optimization approaches. These require entirely new Validation and Verification (V&V) tools to assure their safe operation. To answer this challenge, we are developing an online robust performance and stability monitor for onboard optimization, planning, and control strategies. So follow us on our way from the theoretical breakthroughs to final flight testing on the ADAMP planetary landing demonstrator.
