 Investigations concerning the aerodynamic properties of sports clothing are usually done using puppets becaus their position is fully reproduceable. On the other hand, the surface of the human body is not as rigid as a hard material. That's why the pressure distribution may cause some deformation that reacts onto the flow. (In aviation, we talk about aeroelasticity.) Preliminary studies using a flexible cylinder are to show whether this effect can be quatified.
