Maximilian Dammann studied mechanical engineering at TU Dresden until 2018, specializing in general and constructive mechanical engineering with a focus on product development. In his diploma thesis, he investigated the augmentation of technical objects using depth cameras. He has been working as a Research Associate at the Chair of Virtual Product Development since 2018.
His current core research areas are the use of AI in the product development process, graph-based data models, model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and PDM systems. In addition, he is currently working on data preparation and user interfaces for AR/VR applications.
As part of two AiF projects, he developed methods for the automated geometry preparation of CAD models, tracking methods and annotation systems for industrial AR/VR applications. In the DigiTain project, he worked on processes, methods and models for the fully digital product development and certification of electric drive architectures, taking into account ecological and economic sustainability criteria. His focus was on MBSE, graph-based data structures and PDM integration.
In 2026, he completed his doctorate on the automation of geometry preparation of CAD models into optimized polygon meshes for AR/VR environments. Core contribution is a predictive approach based on machine learning models to control the tessellation parameters that optimizes visual quality and polygon count without resorting to iterative decimation methods.
