Mr. Schwoch completed his studies in mechanical engineering at BTU Cottbus and TU Dresden from 2009 to 2016. Since the end of 2016, he has been working as a research associate at the Chair of Virtual Product Development. Among his initial responsibilities was the establishment and delivery of the course "Interdisciplinary Product Development," in which students work in interdisciplinary teams to design, manufacture, and fly quadcopters. Since 2017, he has also been involved in organizing and supervising the exercises in engineering design.
In the field of research, from 2022 to 2025, he participated in the DIAA-H2 project, which is conducted in collaboration with Siemens, Siemens Energy, and Pfaffinger Bauunternehmung. The aim of the project is to develop a digital twin for process plants, using an electrolysis plant as an example. Methods from product development and product lifecycle management in mechanical engineering were transferred and adapted to plant engineering. The project focused on the development and implementation of methods and tools for the derivation, instantiation, and maintenance of digital twins, as well as on modularization approaches and variant management within the framework of a prototype plant lifecycle management system.
Since 2025, Mr. Schwoch has been part of the TRR 402 "DediGrad" and is working in subproject C07. The focus here is on researching a sustainability-oriented product lifecycle management strategy and integrating life-cycle-wide environmental assessment of novel graded fiber-reinforced plastics. The work is carried out in cooperation with the Chair of Anthropogenic Material Cycles at RWTH Aachen, the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) at TU Dresden, and the Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) at RWTH Aachen. In parallel, methods for decision-making regarding sustainability and circularity are being developed and implemented in a prototype expert system. Another area of work is contributing to the development of an Intelligent Development and Production System (iDP) within the framework of the Transregio. This system processes scientific findings and makes them available for application in the production of 3D-graded fiber-reinforced plastics.
Mr. Schwoch’s research fields include the development of methods and tools for the management of engineering data, system integration and system orchestration using database technologies, as well as the use of AI tools. As part of his doctoral studies, he is working on supporting the creation of information models for technical systems from distributed, heterogeneous information sources.
