Alexandra Schaaf studied mechatronics at TU Dresden until 2025. During her specialist internship at the Fraunhofer IWU in Dresden, she was involved in the development, design and programming of measuring instruments for force measurement on tool spindles during production. During her studies, she developed a profound interest in biomedical devices and product development. In her student research project, she optimized a device setup for the normothermic machine perfusion of kidneys. As a Student Assistant at the Chair of Virtual Product Development, she also worked on the creation of 3D models from MRI data and the analysis of bone cement implants.
In her diploma thesis, she dealt with process development for the modular division and density-based design of implants for large bone defects. She has been working as a Research Associate at the Chair of Virtual Product Development since January 2026.
