Philipp Sembdner studied mechanical engineering at the TU Dresden from 2003 to 2009, specialising in "general and constructive mechanical engineering". During his internship at Koenig & Bauer AG Planeta in Radebeul, he was jointly responsible for the modelling of purchased and standard parts. In his diploma thesis he dealt with the topic of linking complex and heterogeneous assembly models in VR.
Since completing his studies, he has been working as a research assistant at the chair in the area of Reverse Engineering. In 2017, he completed his doctorate on the topic of computer-aided planning and reconstruction for individual long-term bone implants using the mandible as an example („Rechnergestützte Planung und Rekonstruktion für individuelle Langzeit-Knochenimplantate am Beispiel des Unterkiefers“).
His work focuses on developing effective methods and software tools for planning, designing and manufacturing individual medical devices. In particular, the improvement of processes of interdisciplinary cooperation between physicians, designers and technicians, among others, is the focus of his research activities in order to ultimately accelerate the development process of individual medical devices and thus strengthen the acceptance of individual care.
