Motivation
The digitisation of real objects in the course of reverse engineering provides an immense amount of 3D data describing the geometry of the scanned object. Visualisation of the scan data is usually possible immediately. However, specific data preparation is necessary for integration into calculation simulations. The time required for this exceeds the actual scanning time many times over. In addition, it is currently not possible with commercial software to use already existing finite element models (FE models) of objects for the preparation of scan data of similar objects.
Objectives
In order to avoid the time-consuming and partly user-controlled data preparation steps, a fully automatic process is to be developed that allows a deformation of FE models to the scan data of real objects with similar geometry. Defined boundary conditions and the mesh quality of the FE model are to be preserved.
