Saxon Student Mobility Program & Saxon Science Ambassador Program for India and Taiwan
In cooperation with the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism, TU Dresden offers funding for a stay in Taiwan and India.
There are two different programs:
- the Saxon Student Mobility Program (SSMP), which is intended for Saxon students as well as students from Taiwan and India
- the Saxon Science Ambassador Program (SSAP), which offers funding for academic staff planning a research stay in Taiwan or India
Below you will find an overview of the funding opportunities.
Who can apply?
All students in BA, MA, diploma and state exam programs, as well as PhD candidates enrolled as students, from all Saxon universities can apply. The program is interdisciplinary. Students can apply from the 1st semester of their studies.
Please note that the funding is only available for exchange students staying for 1 or 2 semesters.
What can be funded?
Long-term stay (3 – 12 months)
- mobilty for 1 or 2 semesters at a university in India or Taiwan
- mobility for a research project, e.g. research for a thesis (not tied to semester periods)
Short-term stay (5 days – 6 weeks)
- Summer or Winter Schools
- Language courses at universities or established language learning institutes (at least 25 hours per week)
Where can you study?
The SSMP is intended for students who are planning a stay abroad in Taiwan or India. TU Dresden students can apply for an exchange place via our TUDweltweit or faculty cooperations.
For students who are enrolled at another Saxon university: please familiarize yourself with the offer and exchange places of your university.
The SSMP does not offer additional exchange places, only funding!
Amount of funding
The funding includes the following:
- 850 € monthly installment
- Country-specific travel allowance (1425 € for India, 2125 € for Taiwan)
There is the possibility to apply for a Social Top Up*:
- Students with degree of disability of 20 or higher or chronic illness
- First-time university graduates
- Working students
- Students with a child
The funding is paid out in two installments. You will receive 70 % of the funding after arrival at the host university and submission of the Confirmation of Arrival (PDF). You will receive the remaining 30 % after submitting the Confirmation of Attendance / Confirmation of Stay (PDF) and the Transcript of Records, which indicates your academic achievements at the partner university.
*The application is made via a sworn statement.
Application deadline
All application documents must be submitted to the International Office of the TU Dresden or uploaded to Mobility Online at least 3 months before the start of the stay abroad.

- Learning Agreement (tabular overview of courses at the host university and which courses these correspond to at home university; courses with ca. 20 - 25 ECTS)
- Overview of previous academic achievements (if available: BA or “Vordiplom” certificate)
- Proof of language skills (English B2 according to CEFR; not older than 2 years at the time of application); valid language certificats: IELTS, TOEFL, TUD/TUDIAS certificate, DAAD language certificate, in the case of lower semesters, the Abitur also counts Note: previous stays abroad or certificates of participation in language courses are not valid
- 1 letter of recommendation from a university lecturer with at least a doctorate
- Proof of enrollment at the partner university (e.g. Letter of Admission/Acceptance)
- for external students (not enrolled at TU Dresden): Certificate of enrollment from the home university
Who can apply?
All students of Indian and Taiwanese universities in BA, MA and PhD programs can apply. The program is interdisciplinary. Students can apply from the first semester of their studies.
Please note that only exchange students staying for 1 or 2 semesters can apply for the funding.

An application is possible as soon as you have applied to a Saxon university and have been accepted. Application documents should be submitted to the International Office of TU Dresden at least 3 months before the start of your studies at the Saxon university.

The new funding program, initiated by the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism, supports scientists from Saxon universities who are planning a stay in India or Taiwan. The aim is to strengthen existing partnerships in these countries, establish new partnerships, share expertise and promote Saxony, especially the respective Saxon university.
What can be funded?
A variety of mobility opportunities can be funded. These include, for example, participation in international conferences, workshops and events, cooperation talks, research or project agreements and initiating partnerships, giving a talk at Indian or Taiwanese universities and holding seminars or lectures.
Who can apply?
The Saxon Science Ambassador Program is open to all Saxon academic staff at doctoral level and above who wish to undertake a short-term or long-term stay in India or Taiwan.
