Extension of Saxon Student Mobility Program & Saxon Science Ambassador Program
Applications for the SSMP and SSAP will be possible again from 01.10.2025.
The earliest possible start date for funding is 01.01.2026.
There is a fixed application deadline for the SSMP from 01.10. - 31.10.2025.
There is no deadline for the SSAP.
In cooperation with the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism, TU Dresden offers funding for a stay in Chile, India, Taiwan and Vietnam.
There are two different programs:
- the Saxon Student Mobility Program (SSMP), which is intended for Saxon students as well as students from Chile, India, Taiwan and Vietnam
- the Saxon Science Ambassador Program (SSAP), which offers funding for academic staff planning a research stay in Chile, India, Taiwan or India
Below you will find an overview of the funding opportunities.
Who can apply?
All students of all Saxon universities in Bachelor's, Master's, diploma and state examination programs and enrolled doctoral students can apply. The program is interdisciplinary. Students can apply from the 1st semester onwards.
Please note that only exchange students can apply for funding.

For stays from 01.01.2026:

What can be funded?
Long-term stays (1 - 6 months)
- Semester stays by students at universities in Chile, India, Taiwan and Vietnam
- Research stays to write a thesis (not linked to semester periods)
Short-term stays (5 - 30 days)
- Specialized courses (e.g. summer schools) at universities in Chile, India, Taiwan or Vietnam
- Language courses at universities or established language institutes (at least 25 hours per week)
Where can you study?
The SSMP is aimed at students who are planning a stay abroad in Chile, India, Taiwan or Vietnam. TU Dresden students can apply for an exchange place via our TUDweltweit or faculty cooperation programs, for example.
For students who are enrolled at another Saxon university: please familiarize yourself with the offer of your university.
The SSMP does not offer additional exchange places, only funding!
How much is the funding?
The funding includes the following services:
Long-term stays (1 - 6 months)
850 € monthly funding
Short-term stays (5 - 30 days)
Day 1 - 14: 79 € / day
Day 15 - 30: 56 € / day
There is a country-specific travel allowance for both long-term and short-term stays:
Chile: € 2,250
India: 1.425 €
Taiwan: € 2,125
Vietnam: € 2,025
It is also possible to apply for a Social Top Up*:
- Students with GdB from 20 or chronic illness
- First-time university graduates
- Employed students
- Students with a child
The grant is paid out in two installments. You will receive 70% of the funding after arrival at the host university and submission of the Confirmation of Arrival (PDF). You will receive the remaining 30% after submitting the Confirmation of Attendance / Confirmation of stay (PDF) and the Transcript of Records, which shows your achievements at the partner university.
*The application is made via a declaration on your honor.

- Overview of previous academic achievements (if available: Bachelor's or intermediate diploma certificate)
- Proof of language proficiency (English B2 according to CEFR; not older than 2 years at the time of application); valid language certificates: IELTS, TOEFL, TUD/TUDIAS certificate, DAAD language certificate, in the 1st or 2nd semester the Abitur also counts.
Please note: previous stays abroad or certificates of participation in language courses are not accepted. - 1 reference from a university lecturer with a doctorate in a relevant subject

All students from Chilean, Indian, Taiwanese and Vietnamese universities in BA, MA, and enrolled doctoral students are eligible to apply. The program is interdisciplinary. Students can apply from the 1st semester onwards.
Please note that only exchange students who are studying at a Saxon university for 1 semester or are completing a research stay can apply for funding.

The funding includes the following benefits:

850 € monthly scholarship installment (calculated on a daily basis1

The new funding program, initiated by the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism, supports scientists from Saxon universities who are planning a stay in Chile, India, Taiwan or Vietnam. The aim is to strengthen existing partnerships in these countries, establish new partnerships, share expertise and promote Saxony, especially the respective Saxon university.
What can be funded?
A variety of mobility opportunities can be funded. These include, for example, participation in international conferences, workshops and events, cooperation talks, research or project agreements and initiating partnerships, giving a talk at Indian or Taiwanese universities and holding seminars or lectures.
Who can apply?
The Saxon Science Ambassador Program is open to all Saxon academic staff at doctoral level and above who wish to undertake a short-term or long-term stay in Chile, India, Taiwan or Vietnam.
