Dresden celebrates its cultural diversity: TUD participates in the Intercultural Days
The Intercultural Days will again be held in Dresden from September 17 to October 8, 2023. This year's motto is "What unites us". For the 33th time, the state capital Dresden, numerous initiatives and people committed to cosmopolitanism will celebrate the diversity and openness of our city together with local citizens. The focus of the Intercultural Days is on bringing people together and promoting the exchange between cultures from all over the world. The multifaceted program offers opportunities to adopt new perspectives, learn from each other and thus enrich social interaction. More than 200 events will take place during the festival, including concerts, lectures, exhibitions, and creative, sporting, and culinary activities for all ages. TU Dresden is also participating in the Intercultural Days this year by hosting two events.
Lost in Translation Slam
September 28, 2023 | 5:00-6:30 pm | online
We are looking for short and funny anecdotes about translation fails. Have you ever translated a fact or an idiom completely wrong and got into hot water? Have you caused any gross misunderstandings and not immediately found a good way out? Or do you have a particularly good example of a supposedly mistranslation that ultimately works better than a seemingly correct translation? If you would like to participate in the Lost in Translation Slam with your story, please send an email with your name and a short description to the International Office of TU Dresden . Contributions are welcome in German or English.
Stolen Books, Looted Art - Insights into Provenance Research in Dresden
October 4, 2023 | 6:30 pm | COSMO Science Forum at the Kulturpalast Dresden
How do the pieces of art end up in museums and books in libraries? Provenance research focuses on the history and ownership of such cultural objects - from their creation to their current repository. Occasionally, gaps or inconsistencies come to light, such as in the case of unlawful expropriations. Using four selected cases, provenance researchers from the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the SLUB illustrate how they reconstruct the origin of objects and what consequences their findings have. You can find more information about the event here.
