The surprising world of numbers, your rights on the Internet, tiny all-rounders and experimenting with air: Once again, the Children's University Dresden winter semester promises plenty of excitement and knowledge
The summer vacations are over and registration for the Children's University is just around the corner. Registration will start on August 12, 2024 at 8 am. The Children's University team has once again uncovered interesting research areas that 8 to 12-year-olds can immerse themselves in during the winter semester.
Just like last semester, the Children's University will be held in hybrid sessions. This will allow all children to either take part directly in the lecture hall or to follow the lectures from home.
You can register via an online form, which will be available at www.ku-dresden.de on the day of registration.
The lecture program for the 2024 winter semester
The first date holds surprises from the world of numbers. Prof. Andrea Hoffkamp will try to determine the size of infinity with the help of mathematics.
The second lecture will discuss self-determination and children's rights in the digital world. Junior Professor Katharina Kaesling will explain what you should look out for on the Internet to avoid falling for tricks and what you can do if a photo of your own face appears on the world wide web unintentionally.
Microbes everywhere? Disgusting!? Not at all! Prof. Thorsten Mascher will share some insights into these hard-working microorganisms. They are extremely useful and usually do their work unseen, although we actually find them everywhere.
At the end of the Children's University, things will get airy and experimental. Prof. Stefan Kaskel will bring along games to help us understand how air is structured and what it takes to make air visible. Moreover, this lecture will be about good air and bad air.
