Scientific Photography Collection
In addition to the Hermann Krone Collection, Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) preserves a collection focused on historical photographic technology. In 1907, when donating his didactic tableaus to the newly founded Institute for Scientific Photography, Hermann Krone added some devices from his own studio to the gift. Their whereabouts are unknown, but shortly afterwards the young institute's first director, Prof. Robert Luther, began building the collection that has survived until today. His successors continued to add to the holdings, which today counts more than 700 objects. They include photographic devices and lenses - such as custom-made cameras and a Petzval lens - as well as physical models, handcrafted for didactic and scientific purposes.
