Leica SP8 - Mouse intravital microscopy
Multiphoton laser scanning microscopy
A multiphoton laser scanning microscope is more or less a confocal microscope equipped with a special infrared laser allowing for multi-photon excitation. This laser enables 2-photon or 3-photon excitation and both second~ and third harmonic generation providing deep tissue/organ imaging in small, living animals.
Description
Location: MTZ, 1st floor; room B 10.019
The Leica SP8 MP/OPO is designed and optimized for intravital microscopy of small animals (mostly mice, but rat and zebrafish would also be possible). The tunable IR-laser (Chameleon Vision II Compact OPO) permits fluorophore multiphoton excitations in the NIR range from 680nm up to 1280nm providing deep tissue/organ imaging in living animals. Our microscope room is furthermore equipped a surgery area and a complete anesthesia unit to enable onsite surgery together with imaging.
