"A bridge from science to people" – successful Global Health Spring School Dresden 2026
Participants of the GHISS 2026.
This year's fourth Global Health Spring School Dresden once again brought together committed students from a wide range of subject areas with renowned experts from various disciplines. Over five intensive days, the event at the TUD Faculty of Medicine offered a platform for interdisciplinary exchange, new perspectives, and practical insights into key global health topics.
The Spring School is organized by the Department of General Medicine of the Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine in cooperation with the Chair of Public Health and the Institute of Political Science at the TUD. The diverse program included introductions to global health, discussions on global health policy, insights into planetary and urban health as well as workshops on community engagement in times of crisis and mental health in the context of migration. Interactive formats such as design thinking workshops, simulations, and case studies enabled participants to apply theoretical knowledge directly and develop innovative solutions. In addition to scientific input, the focus was on practical relevance and social relevance, in line with the motto of building a bridge between research and society. International perspectives and local practical examples complemented the program and underlined the global dimension of health challenges.
Dr. Henna Riemenschneider, Head of Research at the Department of General Medicine, says: "Our Spring School highlighted the close connection between global health, primary care, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The inspiring atmosphere of the event is thanks to the dedicated commitment of students and lecturers from a wide range of Departments."
Special thanks also go to the event sponsors – the Dresden District Medical Office and the Dresden University Medicine Foundation – for their support. The next Global Health Spring School Dresden is already being planned.
