On April 23, 2026 at 11 a.m., the exhibition "Women.Education.Medicine" by the Institute of History of Medicine will be opened in the MTZ. The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Esther Troost, will welcome guests to the event. Medical historian Prof. Sabine Schleiermacher (Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin) will then give a lecture on female doctors in the history of medicine.
Women have been admitted to study at Saxon universities for 120 years. The Institute of History of Medicine is taking this anniversary as an opportunity to highlight the history of female doctors in Saxony and beyond with the exhibition "Women.Education.Medicine".
The exhibition presents the first female doctors in the region and their educational paths, describes historical aspects of the specialization and self-organization of female doctors and outlines their role under National Socialism. A further thematic focus is placed on the professional activities and career opportunities of female doctors in the GDR and the Dresden Medical Academy.
