DSCS Retreat and Andreas Deußen Poster Award 2025

On June 17, 2025, the annual DSCS retreat took place with the CPKD fellows as the main actors. After the welcome address by DSCS spokesperson Prof. Björn Falkenburger, former CPKD fellows and now successful Clinician Scientists Loreen Natusch and Anne-Marlen Ada presented their careers to date as Clinician Scientists at the Faculty of Medicine at TU Dresden - with all the ups and downs, motivational tips and explanations of the necessity of Clinician Scientists.

This was followed by the project presentations of the CPKD fellows in the form of short talks. This left plenty of time for detailed questions and discussions by the evaluation committee, which this year was again supported by the younger generation of DSCS Clinician Scientists. In the afternoon, the students had the opportunity to take part in the Medicine, Humans and AI event as part of the Dresden University Medicine event.

The highlight was the awarding of the Andreas Deußen Poster Prize to:

1st place Jamie Kölbel (VTG)
2nd place Clemens Ferdinand Weisner (PHT)
3rd place Lilly Sophie Dydymski (DZNE/CRTD).

Finally, the Young DSCS introduced itself to the CPDK fellows as a new student initiative. Katja El-Armouche, head of the DSCS, also presented the Keep-on Track program, which is highly relevant for current CPKD students as the next step towards remaining in research routines.

Prof. Andreas Deußen then brought the day-long event to a close with inspiring words.

The DSCS Retreat showed once again how important it is to network different career stages in the field of early career support and how much clinician scientists in Dresden benefit from each other. It also became clear that successful research work for clinician scientists is immensely dependent on the support programs behind it.
