Impulses for science and leadership: Natalia Gavrilița in dialog with female researchers
We recently welcomed a special guest to the Faculty of Medicine and the CarMeN women's network. Natalia Gavrilița (48) is considered an expert in economics and public policy and, after her time as Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, now holds several leading positions, including on the Supervisory Board of the National Bank of Moldova and as a member of the Board of Directors of the European Council on Foreign Relations and the Academic Council of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies. In 2023, she received the Trailblazer Award from the Women Political Leaders (WPL).
As part of the women's network meeting, four female academics presented their current research projects: Prof. Martina Rauner, Prof. Larysa Baraban, Dr. Magdalena Wekenborg and Dr. Melanie Martin gave exciting insights into their work in the micro and macro world, basic research and applied research. In the intensive exchange that followed, the topics discussed included female leadership in politics and science, the fragile balance between career and family and new career paths after a top position.
The exciting discussion was followed by a tour of a high-tech device, the MR-LINAC at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Radiotherapy and Radiooncology in the building of the National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden (NCT/UCC). The crowning finale was the guided tour of the Frauenkirche Dresden with an insight into and sound experience of its unique organ art.
We would like to thank Ms. Gavrilița and all participants for the open exchange and the inspiring impulses!
