TUD Junior Professor Hani Harb re-elected to the Board of Die Junge Akademie

The new Board of Die Junge Academie has been in office since 28 June 2026. The handover took place during the annual celebration, where ten new members were welcomed and ten existing members were honoured as alumni. The Board includes a representative from the Faculty of Medicine, Junior Professor Hani Harb, who has been elected for the second time.

The Board for the 2026–2027 term consists of the following members, listed in alphabetical order:

• Hani Harb (Infectious Immunology, Institute for Medical Microbiology and Virology, TUD Faculty of Medicine and Dresden University Hospital)

• Hanna Pfeifer (Political Science, IFSH Hamburg)

• Maximilian Schäfer (Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Information Technology, FAU Erlangen–Nuremberg)

• Mira Sievers (Islamic Theology, University of Hamburg)

• Lea Luka Sikau (Media Art and Experimental Opera, ZKM Karlsruhe)

The Board shapes the strategic and thematic direction of Die Junge Akademie, introduces topics to the plenary sessions, and oversees their implementation in projects and formats. It also supports and advises the Chair.

About
Hani Harb is a Junior Professor of Infectious Immunology at the TUD Dresden University of Technology, a member of the Graduate Academy | Postdoc Center | TUD, and an EUTOPIA Young Leader. His research group focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of lung pathology.

Background
Die Junge Akademie was founded in 2000 as the world’s first academy for outstanding young academics. Its members – who come from all academic disciplines as well as creative fields – explore the potential and limits of interdisciplinary work in new projects, aim to encourage dialogue between academia and society, and provide new impetus in discussions about scientific policy. Die Junge Akademie is supported by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW) and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Its office is located in Berlin.
