PD Dr. Lena Seifert, Clinic and Polyclinic for Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, receives Else Kröner Clinician Scientist Professorship 2021
PD Dr. med. Lena Seifert, from the Clinic and Polyclinic for Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, receives an Else Kröner Clinician Scientist Professorship 2021: "Deciphering the interplay of immunological evasion mechanisms and metabolic factors in oncogenesis and metastasis in pancreatic cancer".
Tumor cells can evade the immune system through various immunological evasion mechanisms. Some immunotherapies can block these evasion mechanisms and allow the immune system to attack the tumor. Impressive treatment successes have been achieved with this therapeutic strategy in various cancers, but not in pancreatic cancer. A detailed understanding of the complex immunological processes in pancreatic cancer is therefore urgently needed. The metabolic requirements of tumor and immune cells have a decisive influence on the response of immunotherapies. The research of PD Dr. med. Lena Seifert aims to decipher important interactions between immunological evasion mechanisms and metabolic requirements in pancreatic cancer. Based on this, innovative therapies for pancreatic cancer will be developed.
