BMFTR funds "Innovative Data Analyses for Women's Health and Gender-Sensitive Medicine"
The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) is funding research projects on "Innovative Data Analysis for Women's Health and Gender-Sensitive Medicine."
The goal of this funding initiative is to provide impetus for greater consideration of women’s health in clinical research and for gender-sensitive healthcare. By funding innovative data science approaches (including AI-based methods) for analyzing existing datasets on women’s health and gender-sensitive medicine, the aim is to counteract the negative effects of the gender data gap and the associated gender-specific biases in health research.
The research projects are therefore based exclusively on existing and accessible datasets from clinical-epidemiological and biomedical research as well as healthcare data.
University Medicine researchers are expected to collaborate closely with the Data Integration Center located there. Project leaders from other institutions are expected to collaborate with comparable local institutions
Not eligible are joint projects and projects
- in which new data is to be collected or biomaterial collections or registries are to be established or expanded;
- in which clinical trials are conducted;
- that have no direct connection to topics in women’s health or gender-sensitive medicine and corresponding clinically relevant questions;
- where the focus is on method development.
The call for proposals can be found on the BMFTR website .
The procedure is a single-stage process with submission deadline of August 9, 2026.
