The Institute for Immunology
The Institute for Immunology of the Medical Faculty Carl Gustav Carus investigates the immune system in health and disease. We perform specialized diagnostic tests for diagnosis of immunological disease. The institute is responsible for teaching immunology on the Dresden campus.
We use state-of-the-art technology to investigate
• molecular pathogenesis of Systemic Lupus erythematosis (SLE) and related
autoimmune diseases
• control of immune responses and their misregulation in allergic diseases
• biology of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells
• interaction of the immune system with cancer
• development and validation of new diagnostic tests
We offer an attractive teaching program comprising lectures, seminars and practicals for students of medicine, dentistry, biology and biotechnology. We familiarize our students with fundamental physiological and pathophysiological functions of the immune system. We also offer M.tuberculosis assays and perform specialized tests to clarify primary immunodeficiencies.Diagnostik
We perform diagnostic assays with a focus on autoantibody detection. Our high standards in this field have national and international reputation.
The Institute coordinates Research Unit FOR2599 ‘Tissue type 2 responses’, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2017 (www.for2599.de, speaker: Axel Roers). The institute also coordinates the Dresden site of Transregio-Collaborative Research Center
TR-SFB 237 ‘Nucleic Acid Immunity’, funded by DFG since 2018 (speaker of the Dresden site: Axel Roers). We closely collaborate with the DFG-funded Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering DIGS-BB and the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT, www.nct-dresden.de).
