Bernhard Elsner is a physiotherapist and health scientist. Since 2014 he is a professor for Therapeutical Sciences at the SRH College for Health in Gera. After his apprenticeship and studies in physiotherapy (B.Sc.), he graduated with a master's degree in Public Health (MPH) at the Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus from the TU Dresden, where he also received his doctorate (Dr. rer. medic.) in 2014. His dissertation was honored with the Carl Gustav Carus advancement reward.
The main focus of his scientific work are systematic reviews with (network) meta-analyses on intervention effectiveness of physiotherapy in neurological rehabilitation. He is an author of the Cochrane network, a non-profit network of scientists to promote evidence-based medicine.
Bernhard Elsner is a founding member and board member of the German Society of Physiotherapeutical Science (DGPTW), a scientific and medical expert association for Physiotherapy. He is furthermore a co-opted board member of the German Society for Neurotraumatology and clinical Neurorehabilitation (DGNKN). Since 2017 he is a member of the Cochrane Neurorehabilitation Unit (CNRU) as part of the Cochrane Rehabilitation Field (CRF) and he also engages in the development of guidelines in a working group of the scientific and medical expert association (AWMF).
He is co-editor of the german journal "Prävention und Gesundheitsförderung" [Prevention and Health Promotion] and reviewer of numerous national and international medical journals.

Jan Mehrholz is a physiotherapist since 1997 and works as a Professor for Physiotherapy at the University of Applied Sciences in Gera for 11 years now. He has a broad clinical expertise as a physiotherapist and in neurological rehabilitation. In 2006 he received a Master Degree in Public Health (Magister Public Health) and he completed his Dr. rer. medic. in 2007. Two and a half year later in 2010 he received his ‘Habilitation’ and ‘Venia legendi for Public Health’ at the Faculty of Medicine, Technical University of Dresden. He is supervising Master and PhD and M.D. students. He is the head of a private scientific institute in Kreischa, Klinik Bavaria Kreischa, for more than 11 years and has an established international track-record in presentation and publication. Jan Mehrholz is Associate Editor of the Cochrane Stroke Group and author of more than 90 full publications in peer-reviewed journals including more than 10 published Cochrane reviews and more than 12 published Cochrane protocols. He is also engaged in the Cochrane NeuroRehabilitation Unit. For over 10 years he is editor of the journal ‘Neuroreha’ Thieme Verlag, Stuttgart. In 2018 he received the ‘Bauer-Rehabilitationspreis’ (founded by the German Societies DGN and DGNR) for his engagement in neurological rehabilitation.
