Qualification programme
The IRTG-ICSMD qualification programme for the PhD students is a three-year curriculum and can be extended maximally to 4 years. The PhD programme is embedded within the DIPP (Dresden International PhD Program), which combines two powerful partners dedicated to first-class doctoral training: the International Max-Planck Research School for Cell, Developmental and Systems Biology (IMPRS-CellDevoSys) and the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering (DIGS-BB) established at the TUD.
Qualification Programme
The IRTG-ICSMD qualification programme for the MD students is embedded in the curricular structured “Carus Promotionskolleg Dresden (CPKD)” of the Faculty of Medicine at the TUD and offers MD students an ambitious one-year training programme that ensures completing the methodical and experimental parts of their theses. The IRTG-ICSMD PIs are affiliated to the DIPP, and are faculty members of the IMPRS-CellDevoSys, the DIGS-BB and/or the CPKD.
The doctoral researchers perform their independent collaborative projects in various IRTG research groups and participate in the “within-group” seminars. Our specific IRTG-ICSMD qualification programme is designed as an extended DIPP and CPKD curriculum, which groups the students in a smaller class that focuses on their specific topics and creates an interactive environment within the programme. Therefore, our students benefit from their participation in general DIPP or CPKD training activities and the specific IRTG-ICSMD qualification programme.
Most importantly, both mandatory and recommended courses and seminars are part of the IRTG programme. Neither the DIPP nor the CPKD employs the European Credit Transfer Accumulation System (ECTS) credit point system. However, the obligatory modules of the IRTG-ICSMD curriculum are equivalent to 20 credits for the PhD and 5 credits for the MD. Being at an advanced stage of their academic education, the IRTG-ICSMD aims to foster the students’ autonomy and increase their responsibility and accountability. To ensure transparency and consistency, the minimum requirement for successful completion of the curriculum will be set down in a supervision agreement.
