Defense of the student thesis by Benjamin Merker, B.Sc.
We congratulate Mr. Benjamin Merker, B.Sc. on the successful defense of his scientific thesis entitled: "Methods of Dispersion Correction in Optical Coherence Tomography in the Frequency Domain", supervised by PD Dr. rer. medic. habil. Julia Walther and Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Silvio Fuchs* (Faculty of Engineering, Department of Physics and Laser Technology, Laserinstitut Hochschule Mittweida).
In his work, Mr. Merker devoted himself to the theoretical and experimental further development of dispersion compensation in optical coherence tomography (OCT). In particular, he investigated the mathematical modeling and practical implementation of methods such as phase multiplication and k-resampling. These approaches enable precise correction of dispersion effects caused by material-specific refractive index changes, which can impair the image quality of OCT. Mr. Merker showed that k-resampling not only allows simultaneous correction of dispersion across all depths of a sample, but also enables conclusions to be drawn about the material properties, such as the refractive index.
We wish Mr. Merker all the best for his future professional and scientific career and congratulate him on this outstanding achievement!
