Immune-based diagnostic in oncology
Solid and haematological malignancies are highly heterogeneous even within one entity. Novel techniques and an increasing knowledge about tumour biology provide the basis to implement individualized treatment approaches into treatment protocols. In the past years immune-based treatments have successfully improved the outcome of certain cancers. However, there is still a lack of knowledge to fully embrace the potential of utilizing the immune system to treat patients. Our group is working on improving the understanding of how quantifying changes in the immune system can be used to predict a patient's outcome or response to therapy and to individualize a patient's treatment.
Our current work is focussed on how differences in immune reconstitution in patients following haematopoietic stem cell transplantation can identify patients at higher risk of relapse or graft versus host disease (GvHD). A special focus of this work is based on the ability to assess the T cell receptor repertoire using next generation sequencing 1.
- Identify specific changes in the T cell receptor repertoire composition to predict the outcome of patients following stem cell transplantation
- Explore the T cell receptor repertoire composition as a tool to identify patients at risk of GvHD
- Assess the prognostic potential of T cell receptor repertoire analyses in patients receiving immune therapies
