MSNZ goes hybrid!
Networking in times of Corona? Of course!
At our first hybrid event, the MSNZ Special Summer Meetup, on 11.09.20. in Dresden, we welcomed live and virtual audiences from Dresden, Cologne, Würzburg and Prague.
Participants learned about misleading charts and how to avoid them in the workshop "Data Visualization - How to become a data detective" by Dr. Helena Jambor. Interested scientists can still join the regular online meetup DataVis Help Desk to learn more about data visualizations. To participate, subscribe to the mailing list by sending the text "subscribe" to datavizmeetup-request@groups.tu-dresden.de).
Following the workshop, Dr. Lynae Brayboy, MD and Professor of Translational Genomics at the Charite in Berlin and adjunct professor at Brown University, Rhode Island, shared her experiences of becoming Clinician Scientist. She also presented her work on the effects of germline aging on female infertility, which is often associated with other health problems such as cardiovascular diseases. After Dr. Brayboy, Dr. Florian Jug, currently at the MPI-CBG Dresden and HumanTechnopole in Milan, presented the machine learning developed in his lab that allow better analysis of biological image data.
The event ended with an open-air BBQ where, with physical distancing, lively discussions took place. Our conclusion: A combination of digital and physical presence offers many more interested people the opportunity to experience the latest scientific topics in dialogue.
