Dresden Clinician Scientist Programs retreat followed by the Precision Oncology Symposium 2022
For three days, Großräschen was the setting for a stimulating scientific exchange of the Mildred Scheel Early Career Center Dresden together with the Else Kröner Research College of the daily business routine.
In June 2022, the first in person retreat in persona took place in Großräschen, which could only be held online in the last few years due to the pandemic.
The first day focussed on future perspectives and visions for the individual clinician and medical scientists. After an lively discourse on common research content as well as future synergies, collaborations and innovations, Jonas Deichmann gave a vivid presentation on keeping motivation during big challenges.
On the second day, the rich and varied program offered the opportunity to discuss scientific topics and exchange ideas about challenges of being a group leader during joint activities such as a bike tour. Also lively exchange took place in moderated formats. Sašo Kočevar and Dana Galili from hfp consulting led through an interactive Lab Management Workshop. In the evening, Daniel Klotz presented results of his patient survey on Clinician Scientists, with patient representatives also sharing their personal experiences. This opened the possibility of a dialogue beyond the usual doctor-patient relationship - also for the medical scientists. At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed the sounds of the acoustic ensemble "Saela Whim".
From Großräschen, MSNZ fellows continued on to the Precision Oncology Symposium 2022 at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD). With the participation of the MSNZ external advisory board, Jan Bussink and Claudia Rössig, the group leaders presented their research progress. The opportunity for an intensive and individual exchange was offered by the following poster session, where among others the PhD students and Clinical Fellows discussed their projects.
The overall positive consensus of these three days as well as the active participation in the networking of all participants showed the necessity and importance of networking events for further development of successful projects.
