Institute of Pharmacology & Toxicology

The Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology is part of the Integrative Center for Pharmacology and Toxicology, which is also home to the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology.

Our mission is to decipher the mechanisms behind cardiovascular diseases and to gain sound knowledge that serves as a basis for the development of innovative therapeutic approaches. The Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology is currently home to four dedicated research groups focusing on different facets of these diseases.

The research activities cover a wide range of approaches, from molecular and cellular investigations to immunological questions. Our scientists use state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methods to gain insights into the pathophysiological basis of different cardiovascular pathologies. Our aim is not only to characterize the diseases in detail, but also to identify potential targets for therapeutic interventions.

The interdisciplinary cooperation within our institute enables us to take a comprehensive look at the complex interactions underlying these diseases. Through an ongoing dialog between the research groups, we create an integrative research environment that enables us to exploit synergies and develop innovative new approaches.
