Professorship for Minimally-Invasive and Robotic Surgery
odern surgery at a top university level is characterised by patient-oriented care of the highest quality and, in particular, expertise in specific complex diseases. It is essentially characterised by the interplay of highly trained surgical skills (competence), state-of-the-art technical equipment (technology) and the continuous creation and consideration of the latest research and study results (evidence). Clinical activity is therefore based on innovative teaching and training concepts as well as forward-looking translational research projects. Interdisciplinary collaboration between all relevant stakeholders is essential for creating, maintaining and expanding this level of excellence.
The Professorship for Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery is located in the Clinic and Polyclinic for Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (Clinic for VTG Surgery) at the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital Dresden and is simultaneously embedded in an excellent translational research landscape on the campus of the Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine, the TU Dresden and all other institutions of the DRESDEN Concept. These unique institutional framework conditions form an excellent basis for the further development of technically complex and innovative minimally invasive and robotic surgery, the continuous development and expansion of the expertise required for its application and the generation of the necessary empirical evidence for its benefits. Furthermore, numerous collaborations and projects have already been established. These need to be strengthened, coordinated and expanded in the described triad of expertise, technology and evidence.
