ETNA
Prof. Fedorova (Maria / Fedorov lab) received DFG funding for the project “Role of macrophage ferroptosis in myocardial infarction” within the DFG-funded Research Unit “Modulation of the innate immune response in the early phase of myocardial infarction (ETNA)”. Heart attacks and the resulting myocardial dysfunction are among the leading causes of death worldwide. Following a heart attack, the immune system initiates a pronounced inflammatory response that is essential for tissue repair but can also lead to additional damage. The strength and characteristics of this response play a crucial role in determining the healing process and the long-term function of the heart. The new Research Unit at the TUD Faculty of Medicine, lead by Prof. Ali El‑Armouche, and Prof. Kaomei Guan, aims to investigate strategies to modulate this immune response, with the goal of reducing harmful effects while enhancing mechanisms that support cardiac healing.
