Research Areas

In the Chair of General Microbiology, we study how bacteria survive, communicate, compete, and adapt - and use this knowledge to develop new approaches for antimicrobial research and biotechnology. Our primary focus lies on multicellular bacteria: from biofilm architecture, antimicrobial resistance, and genetically modified spores in Bacillus subtilis to antibiotic production and physiology of filamentous actinomycetes. Beyond basic research, we also develop molecular tools for antibiotic research and in the context of synthetic biology applications.
