Search for an inhibitor for the SABATH-type methyltransferase in Plasmodiophora brassicae

The clubroot disease is a devastating root disease on many cruciferous crops, such as oilseed rape and brassica vegetables in many countries worldwide including Germany. Identification of good control that can be ecologically accepted would be a huge benefit. We have identified a suitable target from the clubroot pathogen which we propose to modulate by a chemical compound. The protein is a methyltransferase from the pathogen that can methylate salicylic acid, a plant defense signal, in vitro.
