Die Professur stellt sich vor
We are crossing borders! To understand consequences of chemical exposures on a cellular and molecular level, particularly for those chemicals with hormone-like activities, knowledge from Physiology, Endocrinology, Toxicology, Chemistry, Food Sciences, Developmental Biology, functional Anatomy and Sports Sciences is required. Our attractiveness of our research and teaching activities is based on the multidisciplinarity of our field

Die Professur stellt sich vor
We elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms of action of natural compounds, synthetic chemicals with receptor dependent hormone-like activities, as well as some potentially hazardous chemicals. Overall our results contribute to
- consumer protection by evaluating the efficacy and safety of plant derived alternatives for the treatment of menopausal complaints
- breast cancer prevention by investigating the impact of chemical exposure during fetal, neonatal and pubertal development on tumorigenesis of the mammary gland
- doping prevention by investigations on biomedical side effects of substances used in doping and by contributions to the development of structure-independent, biological assays for the detection of substance abuse
- basic scientific research by the elucidation of biological consequences of the simultaneous activation of hormonal and detoxifying signaling cascades and their resulting interaction
- environmental protection by investigations on the effects of rare earth elements in mammalian cells
