Metal-free Magnetism in Organic 2D Crystals: Ferromagnetism &Altermagnetism
Principal Investigator
Metal-free magnetism has emerged as a promising frontier in materials science, with significant potential for advancing next-generation quantum computing and spintronics. In this project, we aim to explore magnetic organic 2D crystals (O2DCs) with strong magnetic couplings and spin-splitting. The main objective of this project is to establish design principles for O2DCs with ferromagnetism and altermagnetism and to understand the magnetic behavior in these systems. Altermagnetism, a newly identified class of magnetism, combines momentum-dependent spin-splitting (as seen in ferromagnets) with zero-net magnetization (as observed in antiferromagnets).
